Purple Knight Nordic skiing teams begin competition at UVM Carnival

STOWE, Vt. - The Saint Michael's College Nordic skiing team began its portion of the University of Vermont Carnival on Saturday, competing at the Trapp Family Lodge. The meet, which began with Alpine races on Jan. 11-12, concludes tomorrow. The Purple Knights currently stand 10th out of 16 schools with 224.5 points.

In a closely-packed men's 10K freestyle field, senior Colin Delaney (Lake Placid, N.Y./National Sports Academy) took 32nd in 26:51.10, which was just 48.2 seconds short of the 10th-place finisher. Sophomores Isaiah St. Pierre (Charlestown, N.H./Fall Mountain Regional) and Sam Hammond (Oakdale, Minn./North) were the Purple Knights second and third placers, respectively.

During the women's 5K freestyle, sophomore Chloe Boutelle (Saratoga Springs, N.Y./Saratoga Springs), junior Silke Hynes (Burlington, Ontario/Milton District) and sophomore Emily Burns (North Creek, N.Y./Johnsburg Central) finished within six placements of one another and were separated by 38.0 seconds.
