Trio of top-25 finishes aid Purple Knights at day two of Colby Carnival

CARRABASSETT VALLEY, Maine/WATERVILLE, Maine - The Saint Michael's College skiing team stands ninth among 16 squads heading into the final day of the Colby College Carnival after a trio of top-25 finishes on Saturday. The Alpine portion of the meet, which was held at Sugarloaf Mountain, concluded, while the first day of Nordic races occurred at the Quarry Road Recreation Area. Nordic races complete the meet on Sunday.

The men's Alpine squad placed sixth among 13 teams in the slalom as one of five schools with three racers in the top 25. First-year Brad Farrell (West Windsor, Vt./Sharon Academy) tied for 17th in 1:28.09, trimming 1.27 seconds off his opening run, while sophomore Fredrik Sandell (Oslo, Norway/Donski Alpine) was 20th at 1:28.48. Junior Carl-Oscar Bredengen (Oslo, Norway/Donski Alpine) narrowly trailed Sandell, placing 21st in 1:28.58 after cutting 0.94 seconds off of his first-run showing.

On the women's side, senior Gabbi Hall (San Anselmo, Calif./Forest Charter School) took 34th in 1:39.07, while first-year Nicole Cordingley (Litchfield, N.H./Campbell) jumped from 46th after her first run to place 36th in 1:39.37. She cut 1.59 seconds off of her first trek down the hill, needing 49.07 ticks the second time.

During the Nordic portion of the carnival, senior Colin Delaney (Lake Placid, N.Y./National Sports Academy) clocked in at 27:43.3 to take 37th among 93 finishers in the 10K classic. Sophomore Isaiah St. Pierre (Charlestown, N.H./Fall Mountain Regional) and first-year Samuel Fogg (Rutland, Vt./Rutland) were their team's second and third scorers, respectively.

In the women's 5K classic, the Purple Knights' top three finished within 30.3 seconds of one another. Senior Katlyn Keane (Bethel, Maine/Telstar Regional) crossed the finish line in 21:49.2 before junior Silke Hynes (Burlington, Ontario/Milton District) and sophomore Chloe Boutelle (Saratoga Springs, N.Y./Saratoga Springs) followed.
