Softball Bests Westfield, Falls To Bethel By 8-4 Scores


CLERMONT, Fla. - The Saint Michael's College softball team (5-5) split a pair of games on Friday evening to end play at the National Training Center Spring Games, doubling up Westfield State College, 8-4, and suffering an 8-4 loss to Bethel University of Minnesota.

Senior Kelly Egan (Medford, Mass./Marian) pitched five innings against Westfield, allowing three earned runs while striking out four. She worked the first three innings, then freshman Stephanie Frank (Essex, Vt./Essex) pitched the fourth and fifth innings, getting credit for the victory, before Egan came back in the throw the final two innings. Egan also added an RBI single to aid her cause, while classmate Lindsay Bernard (Scarborough, Maine/Catherine McAuley) doubled and drove in two runs. Saint Michael's erased a 3-2 deficit with four runs in the bottom of the fourth inning in besting Westfield (5-4).

Against Bethel (8-6), Frank suffered the loss, allowing six runs in 1.2 innings of work. Junior Meghan Colitti (Dover, N.H./Berwick Academy) went 3-for-4 with a double and an RBI to lead the offense, while Bernard and senior Heather French (Sheldon, Vt./Bellows Free Academy-Saint Albans) each went 2-for-4 at the plate as Saint Michael's ended its 10-game trip to Florida with a .500 record.

Saint Michael's returns to action on March 30 with a 3 p.m. doubleheader at Northeast-10 Conference rival Merrimack College.
