CLERMONT, Fla. - The Saint Michael's College softball team dropped its two contests of the day on Thursday afternoon, falling to Philadelphia University, 14-4, in a five-inning game, followed by a 7-1 loss to Caldwell College.
In Thursday morning's game against Philadelphia, senior Kelly Egan (Milford, Mass./Marian) pitched three innings, serving eight hits and two strikeouts. Freshman Lauren Mercik (Suffield, Conn./Suffield) came in as relief in the fourth inning, giving up six hits.
Offensively, freshman Stephanie Frank (Essex, Vt./Essex) was 2-for-3, scoring two of the Purple Knights' runs in the contest. Senior Heather French (Sheldon, Vt./BFA-Saint Albans) and Egan each went 1-for-2 while juniors Kelly Rose Losi (Milton, Mass./Milton) and Meghan Colitti (Dover, N.H./Berwick Academy) were 1-for 3 and sophomore Ellen Lussier (Enosburg Falls, Vt./Enosburg Falls) connected during her one time at bat.
Taking their place opposite Caldwell College immediately following their morning contest, the Purple Knights were only able to score one run against the Cougars in a 7-1 loss for Saint Michael's. Frank pitched a complete seven-inning game, recording six strikeouts and 10 hits.
Purple Knights' senior Lindsey Bernard (Scarborough, Maine/Catherine McAuley) was 1-for-3 at bat, as were Losi and Colitti. Senior Katelyn Billings (Saint Albans, Vt./BFA-Saint Albans) was 1-for-2 at the plate, while Lussier batted 1-for-3 to earn the lone RBI for the Purple Knights.
Saint Michael's will play its final two games in Florida on Friday afternoon, starting at 3:30 p.m. against Westfield State College and closing out the day with a 5:30 p.m. contest against Bethel University(Minn.).
