Softball Ends Season With Pair Of Losses At League-Leading Assumption

WORCESTER, Mass. - The Saint Michael's College softball team (6-32, 4-24 Northeast-10 Conference) ended its season on Sunday with a pair of losses at league-leading Assumption College. The Purple Knights were blanked in game one, 3-0, and suffered a 6-2 loss in game two.

In game one, Assumption (27-16, 21-9 NE-10) scored the only three runs of the game in the bottom of the third inning to earn the shutout. Junior Jennifer Lowrey (Assonet, Mass.) struck out seven in the three-hitter to improve to 12-7 on the season, while senior Ashley Bilodeau (Manchester, Conn.) tallied a two-run double in the third inning to pace the Greyhounds. Classmate Amy Gordon (Seekonk, Mass.) went 2-for-3 with a double, run scored and run batted in for Assumption.

For the Purple Knights, sophomore Stephanie Frank (Essex, Vt./Essex) threw well in the complete-game loss, as she allowed seven hits and one walk in six innings. Frank, senior Meghan Colitti (Dover, N.H./Berwick Academy), and sophomore Lindsay Houston (Concord, N.H./Concord) recorded singles in the opening loss.

In game two, Assumption scored in every inning except the fifth to clinch its first NE-10 regular-season softball title since 1991. Sophomore Lauren Medeiros (Seekonk, Mass.) went 3-for-4 in the nightcap with a run scored and an RBI, while freshman Tanya Robidoux (Hooksett, N.H.) tripled, singled and scored twice. Freshman Nicole Boris (Gardner, Mass.) singled twice and drove in a run, while Lowrey picked up her second win of the day by throwing 5.2 innings of scoreless relief, striking out six.

Colitti had a two-run single in the final game of her collegiate career to lead the Purple Knights, who also graduate seniors Kate Condon (Holliston, Mass./Holliston) and Kelly Rose Losi (Milton, Mass./Milton). Freshman Brittany Regis (Monroe, N.H./Saint Johnsbury Academy) doubled for Saint Michael's, while Frank singled twice and took the complete-game loss, despite allowing just two earned runs. Four errors hurt the Purple Knights in the nightcap.
