Softball Splits Pair Of Two-Run Decisions At UMass Lowell

LOWELL, Mass. - The Saint Michael's College softball team (4-16, 2-8 Northeast-10 Conference) split a pair of two-run games at the University of Massachusetts Lowell on Tuesday, winning in eight innings in game one, 7-5, and falling in game two, 5-3.

Sophomore Stephanie Frank (Essex, Vt./Essex) earned the complete-game win in the opener, allowing just three earned runs while striking out four. She also had the go-ahead run batted in in the top of the eighth inning, as the Purple Knights plated two runs on two hits in the top half of the inning.

Also in the opener for the Purple Knights, senior Kelly Rose Losi (Milton, Mass./Milton) belted her first home run of the season, scored twice and tallied two RBIs, while senior Meghan Colitti (Dover, N.H./Berwick Academy) and freshmen Brittany Regis (Monroe, N.H./Saint Johnsbury Academy) and Greer Lemnah (Lyndon Center, Vt./Lyndon Institute) all singled twice. The win was Saint Michael's second straight, following Sunday's 4-3 game two victory against Pace University.

For UMass Lowell in game one, junior Caelyn Ford (Dracut, Mass.) slugged a two-run home run, while classmate Lindsi Panarelli (Shrewsbury, Mass.) doubled among her three hits. Junior Elyssa Boris (Gardner, Mass.) suffered the complete-game loss, allowed 10 hits and five earned runs.

In game two, UMass Lowell (19-15, 5-7 NE-10) scored two runs in the bottom of the fourth inning to take the lead for good and salvage the split. Sophomore Katie Mazure (Burlington, Mass.) and freshman Ali Ferraro (Kingston, N.Y.) each hit solo home runs to lead the River Hawks, while Boris had two hits and two RBIs. She also pitched the final two innings, allowing just one walk, to earn the save, while senior Rachel Schafler (Floral Park, N.Y.) struck out six in five innings to pick of the win.

For Saint Michael's, freshman Bethany Falls (Essex Junction, Vt./Essex) doubled, singled twice and drove in a run, while Lemnah singled twice for the second straight game. Sophomore Lindsay Houston (Concord, N.H./Concord) also singled twice, scored a run and drove in a run, while freshman Laura McCormack (Natick, Mass./Natick) allowed four runs in four innings in suffering the loss.

Saint Michael's is back in action on Thursday with a 3:30 p.m. home doubleheader versus Merrimack College.
