Softball Suffers Pair Of Setbacks To STAC, Saint Leo

CLERMONT, Fla. - The Saint Michael's College softball team (1-7) suffered two losses on Thursday at the National Training Center Spring Games. The Purple Knights were edged by Saint Thomas Aquinas College in Thursday's opener, 4-3, and fell to Florida power Saint Leo University in Thursday's second game, 23-1.
Against STAC, sophomore Stephanie Frank (Essex, Vt./Essex) took the complete-game loss, allowing just two hits in seven innings pitched while striking out five. At the plate, sophomores Brittany Cantore (Saint Johnsbury, Vt./Saint Johnsbury) and Carleen McLaughlin (Branford, Conn./Branford) each had RBI singles.
Versus Saint Leo, Frank had two hits, including a double, and drove in the lone Saint Michael's run. Three Purple Knight pitchers split up the five innings of work, with freshman Laura McCrmack (Natick, Mass./Natick) taking the loss.
Saint Michael's completes its 10-game Florida trip on Friday with games versus Bentley University at 11:30 a.m., and the University of Minnesota-Moorhead at 2:45 p.m.
