Softball's Harkins Makes NE-10 All-Conference First Team; Billings, O'Connor On Third Team

COLCHESTER, Vt. - Saint Michael's College softball senior Ashley Harkins (Colchester, Vt./Colchester) capped an outstanding season by being named to the Northeast-10 All-Conference First Team, it was announced on Friday.

In addition, senior Megan O'Connor (Georgetown, Mass./Georgetown) and junior Katelyn Billings (Saint Albans, Vt./Bellows Free Academy-Saint Albans) earned Third Team recognition.

Harkins had one of the finest seasons in program history in 2009. She set a program record for runs scored (38), base hits (55) and doubles (13). She leads the NE-10 with a .426 batting average and a .682 slugging percentage, and is among the league leaders in several other categories.

O'Connor drove in a program-record 32 runs in 2009, and is also among the league leaders with a .358 batting average. She also was the Purple Knights' top pitcher this spring, going 9-13 on the mound with a 3.85 earned run average in 125.1 innings pitched.

Billings started 36 of 38 games for the Purple Knights, and made a seamless transition from center field to shortstop. She led the squad with eight sacrifice bunts, and was second on the team with eight stolen bases and three triples while batting .277.
