OCOEE, Fla. - The Saint Michael's College softball team (2-0) opened the 2008 season on Saturday with a sweep of Grove City (Pa.) College. In the opener, junior Megan O'Connor (Georgetown, Mass./Georgetown) pitched 5.1 innings of one-hit ball in a 6-2 victory, and in the nightcap, the Purple Knights scored in the bottom of the seventh inning to earn a 6-5 win.
Junior Ashley Harkins (Colchester, Vt./Colchester) was the offensive hero in game one, as she went 2-for-3 at the plate with a triple, three runs scored and three runs batted in.
In game two, O'Connor earned her second win of the day, pitching a scoreless seventh inning. She came on in relief of sophomore Katie Wry (Underhill, Vt./Mount Mansfield Union), who threw the first two innings, and classmate Kelly Egan (Milford, Mass./Marian), who pitched four innings of relief.
Saint Michael's returns to action on Tuesday with a 1:30 p.m. doubleheader versus Saint Joseph (Conn.) College.
