Softball Suffers Pair Of 8-0 Setbacks To Saint Rose


COLCHESTER, Vt.- Five hits was all the Saint Michael's College softball team (7-20, 1-17 NE-10) could muster against The College of Saint Rose (13-17, 10-9 NE-10) Tuesday afternoon as the Purple Knights dropped mirror image 8-0 decisions on Doc Jacobs Field. Junior Megan O'Connor (Georgetown, Mass./Georgetown) was responsible for three hits on the afternoon and pitched 5.2 innings in game one. The Purple Knights return to action on Wednesday at Assumption for a doubleheader starting at 3:30 p.m. in Worcester.

For the Golden Knights, sophomore Amanda Marano (Highland, N.Y./Highland) led the offensive charge going 6-for-8 on the afternoon with three runs batted in. Senior Kristen Calahan (LaGrange, N.Y./Arlington) and junior Tracy Chesebrough (Duanesburg, N.Y./Duanesburg) each pitched five innings of one-hit softball in games one and two, respectively. Calahan, who went 4-for-9 in the batter's box, struck out six and walked none, while Chesebrough struck out 10 batters and walked one.

Sophomores Kelly Egan (Milford, Mass./Milford) and Lindsay Bernard (Scarborough, Maine/Catherine McAuley) each knocked in a hit for the Purple Knights on the afternoon.

After traveling to Assumption on Wednesday, the Purple Knights return to Colchester on Thursday for their season finale home stand versus the Dolphins of Le Moyne College at 3:30 p.m. on Doc Jacobs Field.
