COLCHESTER, Vt.- Looking to snap a four-game skid, the Saint Michael's College softball team (7-14, 1-11 NE-10) dropped a doubleheader to the Hawks of Saint Anselm (14-10, 8-6 NE-10) at Doc Jacobs Field Wednesday afternoon. In game one, the Purple Knights mustered one hit through six innings until making a run in the seventh with a pair of runs. In game two, the Hawks jumped out to an early 5-0 lead in the third and never looked back.
In game one, Megan Lemire (Worcester, Mass./St. Peter Marian) led the Hawks with a pair of hits and two runs batted in while pitching a four-hit, complete game.. Brittney Birch (Bradford, Mass./Haverhill) also chipped in three hits, leading off for the Hawks.
The starting pitcher Kelly Egan (Milford, Mass./Milford), accounted for one of two runs in the bottom of seven but was chased off the mound by the Hawks after two innings. Katie Wry (Underhill, Vt./Mount Mansfield Union) relieved Egan and pitched five innings, allowing six hits and two runs.
In game two, Liz LeBrun (Rowley, Mass./Triton Regional) led the Hawks charge with a pair of hits and pair of runs scored. Pitched Katie Corey (Weymouth, Mass./Weymouth) pitched a five-hit, complete game while striking out four on the afternoon.
With Megan O'Connor (Georgetown, Mass./Georgetown) on the mound pitching a complete game while striking out two, Ashley Harkins (Colchester, Vt./Colchester) ripped a pair of hits but the Purple Knights were held scoreless in the nightcap.
The Purple Knights return to action on Thursday to host Southern New Hampshire (7-12, 4-8 NE-10) at 3:30 for another doubleheader. The Hawks will host Stonehill at 3:30 on Thursday in Manchester.
