COLCHESTER, Vt. - Senior Meg Roberge (Sheldon Springs, Vt./Missisquoi Valley Union) threw a two-hitter in the opener, and earned the save in the nightcap while eclipsing the 750-strikeout plateau for her career, lifting the Saint Michael's College softball team (23-12, 13-10 Northeast-10 Conference) to 3-0 and 2-0 victories versus Stonehill College on Saturday on Doc Jacobs Field.
In game one, Roberge struck out 12 to earn her 16th win of the season. She also scored the game's first run in the third inning following a single, and in the sixth inning, sophomore Ashley Harkins (Colchester, Vt./Colchester) belted a two-run home run, giving the hosts some breathing room.
In game two, Roberge fanned three in 1 1/3 innings to pick up her third save of the year. Sophomore Megan O'Connor (Georgetown, Mass./Georgetown) earned the win on the mound with 5 2/3 innings of two-hit ball, fanning five, and she added three hits at the plate. Both of Saint Michael's runs came in the bottom of the fifth inning.
Saint Michael's returns to action on Sunday, as the Purple Knights host Bryant University in a Senior Day doubleheader beginning at 1 p.m.
