Kevin Lizzo '02, a former two-year captain and four-year member of the Saint Michael's College men's tennis team, enters his eighth season at the helm of the Purple Knights in 2012-13. Through seven years, Lizzo is the second-winningest coach in program history.

A native of New Rochelle, N.Y., who now lives in Burlington, Lizzo has led the Purple Knights to the Northeast-10 Conference Tournament four times.

In both 2010-11 and 2011-12, Saint Michael's was eliminated from postseason contention on the final day of the season. The Purple Knights went 6-6 overall in 2011-12, recording their highest win total in three years.

In 2008-09, Lizzo led the squad to a 7-3 record in league play, its second straight fourth-place finish in the regular-season standings, and a spot in the NE-10 Tournament.

In 2007-08, Saint Michael's was 9-8, earning its first winning season since 2000-01, while going 7-3 in NE-10 play and earning a berth in the league semifinals. The Purple Knights downed Bentley University, 5-3, during an NE-10 Tournament quarterfinal, the first quarterfinal win in program history, and the first beyond the first round of the tournament.

In 2006-07, Lizzo led the Purple Knights to eight victories, including a 6-5 record in league action, and the No. 5 seed in the NE-10 Tournament. During his debut season as a college coach, 2005-06, Saint Michael's tied for eighth in the regular-season standings, narrowly missing entry into the eight-team conference postseason tournament.

Lizzo has worked as a tennis professional at Twin Oaks Sports and Fitness in South Burlington since 2002, and in 2005 also served as a pro at the Burlington Tennis Club. Lizzo spent five summers, from 2000 to 2004, as a tennis pro at the Quarry Hill Club in South Burlington, and worked for five seasons as the varsity assistant coach and junior varsity head coach at Burlington High School. He has also served as a tennis instructor in his hometown, working at both the New Rochelle Racquet Club and the Beckwith Pointe Country Club.

Lizzo also competed in the 21st annual Jeff Stone Memorial Tournament, a prestigious 20-player event featuring former Association of Tennis Professionals (ATP) players, held in August 2006 at the Burlington Tennis Club.

A four-year member of the Purple Knights from 1998-99 to 2001-02, Lizzo guided Saint Michael's to 28 wins, including 19 in NE-10 play, during his career. The league switched from a flighted championship to a team tournament for his sophomore year, and Lizzo helped the Purple Knights qualify for the NE-10 Tournament each of his final three seasons. The Purple and Gold won first-round matches during his sophomores and junior years to advance to the quarterfinals.

Lizzo competed primarily in No. 3 singles and No. 1 doubles during his career, and served as a captain as a junior and senior. He graduated with a degree in business administration.
