COLCHESTER, Vt. - The Saint Michael's College men's tennis team was tabbed for an eighth-place finish out of 10 schools in the Northeast-10 Conference's preseason coaches' poll, which was released by the league office today and chosen by the member institutions' head coaches. The Purple Knights received 28 points, coming within three of sixth-place Le Moyne College, while Merrimack College topped the poll with 81 points.
Saint Michael's is 0-2 both overall and in the NE-10 following a pair of defeats during the fall portion of the team's schedule. The Purple Knights enter the spring with five upperclassmen among their active 10 players while carrying three first-years.
The pairing of senior Eric Parziale (Pinehurst, N.C./Pinecrest) and first-year Steve Thomson (Westport, Conn./Staples) won its only match of the fall against Stonehill College, which was picked fourth in the NE-10. Junior Nick Bosco (Glastonbury, Conn./East Catholic), who studied abroad in the fall, recorded a team-best six singles victories during the 2011-12 season, while Parziale and senior Kenny Vassallo (Wilmington, Mass./Wilmington) each had four. The Purple Knights used eight doubles pairing last season, with Parziale and senior Chris Moskal (Springfield, Mass./Cathedral) each picking up three victories during doubles.
In head coach Kevin Lizzo's '02 eighth season, the Purple Knights continue their season on Feb. 22 when they host Le Moyne at 3 p.m.
