Student Association's Athlete of the Week - Nick Bosco

This year, the Student Association and The Athletic Department thought it would be a good idea to recognize outstanding student athletes from the campus community for their personal athletic achievements, in a new forum we're calling "Athlete of the Week." The weekly selections will come from coach and captain feedback, and every sport will have a week to nominate a student athlete for the honor. If you'd like to nominate a student-athlete, contact Brian Healey at bhealey@mail.smcvt.edu

As the SMC Men's Tennis Team's number one player for the second year running, sophomore standout Nick Bosco takes on the NE-10's best competition week in and week out, and consistently holds his own against the best players the league has to offer.

Hailing from Glastonbury, Conn., Bosco's talent is some of the best St. Mike's has seen in recent years, and his pure ball striking ability and speed on court have proven a perfect combination to keep turning out big wins against top teams.

Senior co-captain Sam Cieplicki called Bosco "one of the toughest competitors around," and said that "he's relentless, and attacks with his groundstrokes no matter what the score is." Cieplicki also said that his demeanor and laid back attitude are just as important to the chemistry of the team.

Head coach Kevin Lizzo echoed Cieplcki's sentiments, and said he's impressed week in and week out with the maturity of his game. "He's been really fun to watch this past week, and he's been playing 'next level' tennis. Nick has shown he can compete against anyone in our conference."

This past Saturday Bosco achieved the lone win for St. Mike's against Le Moyne University, with 6-7, 6-4, 10-3 victory at number one singles. Though the team's loss ended playoff hopes for the year, Bosco will once again hope to lead the team next year to its first playoff berth since 2010.
