Men's Tennis Suffers 5-2 Loss To Penmen In NE-10 Quarterfinals


COLCHESTER, Vt. ? The fourth-seeded Saint Michael's College men's tennis team (7-8) fell to fifth-seeded Southern New Hampshire University, 5-2 on Wednesday in the Northeast-10 Conference Quarterfinals on the Saint Michael's outdoor courts.

With the win, Southern New Hampshire (7-4) advances to the NE-10 Semifinals, where it will visit top-seeded Stonehill College on Friday at 3 p.m.

For SNHU, junior David Spaggiari (Manizales, Columbia) and senior Luis Ramirez (San Cristobal, Venezuela) led the way, as they earned an 8-4 win at #1 doubles, and posted straight-set victories at #1 and #2 singles, respectively. Senior Michael Ricciardi (Londonderry, N.H.) won at #3 singles for the Penmen, while graduate student Colin Stone (Manchester, N.H.) sealed the match with a 6-0, 6-0 win at #6 singles.

For Saint Michael's, seniors John Lescure (Kennebunk, Maine/Berwick Academy) and David Besserer (Brattleboro, Vt./Brattleboro Union) recorded an 8-3 win at #2 doubles, while senior Sean Naughton (Goffstown, N.H./Goffstown Area) and sophomore Ryan Magee (Queensbury, N.Y./Queensbury) earned an 8-5 win at #3 doubles.
