WATERBURY, Conn. - Graduate student Brian Loughlin (Kingston, N.Y./Kingston) scored a career-high-tying eight points to help the Saint Michael's College men's lacrosse team down Post University, 16-7, on Saturday at LaMoy Field. The Purple Knights received votes toward this week's New England Intercollegiate Lacrosse Association (NEILA) poll while starting a season 2-0 for the first time since 2015.

THE ACTION

  • The Purple Knights led 4-0 just 5:12 after the opening draw, with Loughlin scoring twice and dishing two assists in the opening stretch, including on Grillone's tally 15 seconds into the game. Malota pushed the lead to 2-0 at 13:41 of the first quarter before Loughlin had a pair of unassisted tallies.
  • Chacua (man-up goal) and Nogueira scored 3:36 apart to halve the deficit at 4:03.
  • Djusberg won the ensuing draw and fed Grillone for a goal just five seconds after Nogueira's tally, kicking off a 7-0 run.
  • Saint Michael's scored the first six goals of the second stanza. Lockwood converted Grillone's pass at 12:26 before Djusberg tallied six seconds later after winning the faceoff. In one 2:09 stretch, Loughlin scored twice, Grillone netted a man-up tally, and Sharlow found the back of the net, pushing the lead to 11-2.
  • Chacua and redshirt sophomore Mark Colella cut the deficit to 11-4 by 1:56, but Loughlin put home his fifth goal 16 seconds later, sparking a 4-0 spurt. Djusberg sandwiched goals around Grillone's man-down marker, making it 15-4 early in the fourth quarter.
  • Post netted the next three goals, with two in extra-man opportunities, before Lockwood scored with 3:08 left.
