COLCHESTER, Vt. - Saint Michael's College men's lacrosse first-year Jon Lockwood (Norwell, Mass./Norwell) was one of 19 players from around the league named to the Northeast-10 Conference All-Rookie Team, it was announced on Thursday. He becomes the sixth Purple Knight in five years to be honored.
The highest-scoring player on the team, Lockwood led the Purple and Gold in goals (16) and points (22) and was tied for second with six helpers. He appeared in all 14 contests, making 13 starts, while adding 23 ground balls - the most among the Purple Knights' attackmen - and four caused turnovers.
Lockwood registered his first collegiate point with an assist on March 13 at Chestnut Hill (Pa.) College, adding two ground balls and three caused turnovers, before recording a hat trick for his first goals at Georgian Court (N.J.) University two days later. Against seventh-ranked Pace University on March 24, he tallied a goal and an assist and recorded another hat trick on April 7 against Bentley University, which was receiving national votes. He notched a career-high five points on four goals and an assist versus Southern New Hampshire University on April 10 before collecting two goals and an assist and scooping three ground balls at American International College on April 13. Against Le Moyne College, the No. 1 team in Division II, Lockwood scored two goals on April 21.
The Purple Knights finished their first season under head coach Alex Smith at 4-10 overall and 1-10 in the NE10, losing four games by three goals or fewer, including a 10-8 affair with top-ranked Le Moyne.
