Men's Lacrosse Raises Money For "Hope For Haiti"

COLCHESTER, Vt. - The men's lacrosse team sacrificed some of their free time last Saturday, Jan.16, to raise money and awareness for the Haitian relief efforts. At the men's basketball game versus Pace University, members of the men's lacrosse team collected donations through a 50-50 fundraiser, raising a total of $200. As money that normally would have gone towards their team budget, the $200 was instead donated to "Hope for Haiti".

"Given the tragedy down in Haiti five days prior, it seemed like the right thing to do," said men's lacrosse head coach, Paul Schimoler.

"Hope for Haiti" is a well-established relief program that is in its 20th year of existence. Founded by JoAnne Kuehner - the mother of one of Schimoler's lacrosse teammates from his playing years at Cornell University - the original focus had been to make a difference in education. When Kuehner joined forces with Dr. Keith Hussey years later, the mission extended its focus to include nutrition and healthcare.
