COLCHESTER, Vt. - The Saint Michael's College men's lacrosse team is fourth in the Division II New England Intercollegiate Lacrosse Association (NEILA) rankings, released on Wednesday. Also, senior defender Ryan Clunan (Woodstock, Vt./Woodstock Union) was named to the NEILA Preseason Team.
Saint Michael's finished 2010 with a 6-7 record, including a 5-5 mark in the Northeast-10 Conference. The Purple Knights suffered three one-goal losses last season, and return 17 letterwinners from last year's squad in 2011.
One of those returnees is Clunan, who played in all 13 games last season for Saint Michael's, including 12 starts. Clunan led the Purple Knights with 41 ground balls and 18 caused turnovers as a junior, and was among the team leaders in minutes played. He also helped lead a squad that finished third in the NE-10 in caused turnovers per game.
Saint Michael's, led by eighth-year head coach Paul Schimoler, opens the 2011 season on March 9 at 3:30 p.m. versus Plattsburgh State University on Duffy Field at Doc Jacobs Complex.
