  • Seven From Men's Lacrosse Team Earn NEILA All-New England Honors

    COLCHESTER, Vt. - Seven members of the Saint Michael's College men's lacrosse team received recognition on the 2011 New England Intercollegiate Lacrosse Association (NEILA) Division II All-New England Team, it was announced on Wednesday. Three Purple Knights garnered First Team honors, three more landed on the Second Team, and head coach Paul Schimoler (at left) was named the NEILA Division II Coach of the Year.

    COLCHESTER, Vt. - The Saint Michael's College men's lacrosse team (10-6), which finished the 2011 season with the most wins in program history, also finishes as the top team in the New England Intercollegiate Lacrosse Association (NEILA) Division II Poll, announced on Monday. The Purple Knights, meanwhile, slipped two spots to 12th in the United States Intercollegiate Lacrosse Association (USILA) Division II Coaches Poll, also released on Monday.

    COLCHESTER, Vt. - Saint Michael's College junior Paul Tortora, Jr. (Fairfield, Conn./Fairfield Prep), who helped lead the nationally-ranked men's lacrosse team to the Northeast-10 Conference Semifinals and a program-record 10 victories in 2011, was named to the NE-10 All-Championship Team, it was announced on Monday. Tortora finished the season third on the team with 13 assists, and fourth with 17 goals and 30 points.

    GARDEN CITY, N.Y. – The Saint Michael’s College men’s lacrosse team (10-6) narrowly missed hosting the Northeast-10 Conference Championship, as the third-seeded Purple Knights were edged by second-seeded Adelphi University, 8-7, in the NE-10 Semifinals at Motamed Field on Friday. For Saint Michael’s, freshman Max Zuccarini (Medfield, Mass./Medfield) scored a game-high three goals, including two game-tying tallies.

Junior Andrew Buccellato (Glen Rock, N.J./Don Bosco Prep) scored a season-high five goals and sophomore Pete Donnally (Madison, N.J./Morristown-Beard) recorded four goals. Saint Michael’s will travel to second-seeded Adelphi University for Friday’s NE-10 Semifinal match at 4 p.m.

Prior to the game, the Purple Knights recognized their two seniors: Ryan Clunan (Woodstock, Vt./Woodstock Union) and Seth Metayer (Milton, Vt./Milton). Saint Michael's and Assumption will square off again in the NE-10 Quarterfinals on Tuesday at 4 p.m. on Duffy Field.
