COLCHESTER, Vt. - Saint Michael's College men's ice hockey May graduate Josh Dickman (Kapaa, Hawaii/Saint Paul's School) will represent the United States at the 20th Maccabiah Games, which begins next week in Israel, as he earned a spot on a Maccabi USA men's ice hockey team.
Dickman made the team after attending a June 2016 tryout in Philadelphia, and will be playing for former Saint Michael's assistant coach Casey Fratkin. Fratkin will be serving as the lone assistant behind head coach Greg Gardner, who is currently the associate coach with Mercyhurst (Pa.) University. The Maccabi USA team, which will compete in the Open division, took the silver medal at the 2013 Games, falling to Canada in the finals.
Dickman was one of 18 college ice hockey players from the NCAA Division I, II and III and club levels chosen for the 21-man roster when it was announced in December, and among 13 forwards, for a competition held every four years. Team USA opens the tournament on July 5 against Canada before facing Russia two days later, the host nation on July 10, and Germany on July 13. The medal rounds begin the following day. The 5-foot-7 Dickman, who appeared in 22 of his team's 27 games last season, notched nine goals and seven assists, matching his career high in goals while finishing only one off the team lead. He tied for ninth in the Northeast-10 Conference in goals while tying for sixth in power-play tallies (4) and tying for second in game-winners (3). Dickman finished his 72-game career with 26 goals and 21 assists.
