BABSON PARK, Mass. - The Saint Michael's College men's ice hockey team fell in a 4-1 decision in its season finale at 13th-ranked Babson College in Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) East play on Saturday at the Babson Skating Center. The Purple Knights finish their season 8-17 overall and 5-13 in the league, while the Beavers, who are ranked in the most recent D3hockey.com national poll, move to 14-6-5 and 10-5-3.
First-year Kevin Altidor (Montreal, Quebec/Millbrook School) netted his 10th goal of the season for Saint Michael's, while senior Mike Dizgun (Montreal, Quebec/OCN Blizzard) made 28 saves in his last collegiate outing.
Sophomore Mike Driscoll (Milton, Mass./Boston Advantage) tallied two goals and an assist for Babson, while junior Nik Tasiopoulos (Norwell, Mass./Wesleyan University) finished with a goal and two assists. First-year Max Franklin (Wrentham, Mass./Nobles) also scored, junior Ryan Heavey (Andover, Mass./Choate Rosemary Hall) notched a pair of assists, and senior Zeke Testa (Wellesley, Mass./Berkshire School) made 24 stops.
Tasiopoulos gave his team a 1-0 lead with a power-play goal 3:02 into the opening period before Altidor scored on a rebound following his own shot to make the score 1-1 with 3:19 remaining in the frame. Franklin and Driscoll added goals with 4:53 and 2:11 to play in the second period, respectively, to give the Beavers a 3-1 advantage after two. Driscoll added his second of the game with 4:42 left in the final period. The Purple Knights were unable to solve Testa and the Babson defense in the contest's remaining minutes.
