COLCHESTER, Vt. - Saint Michael's College men's ice hockey senior Josh Geary (Wellesley, Mass./Phillips Andover Academy) was named the Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) East Player of the Week for the second time in three weeks, earning the honor for the week ending on Sunday, Feb. 10.
Geary collected four goals and an assist during a three-game week. In a 5-4 overtime win on Saturday against Castleton State College, which was receiving a national vote, Geary scored twice in the second period, netting a go-ahead marker and then a tying tally. In the Purple Knights' 4-3 loss on Friday to Skidmore College, Geary scored twice and added an assist. Both of his goals was a tying power-play tally, and he assisted a goal with 11 seconds left that brought his team within one.
Geary leads the Purple and Gold with career highs of 16 goals, 24 points and five power-play markers. He is the NE-10 leader in goals and is fourth in points. Geary is tied for third in the ECAC East in goals and power-play goals, sitting two short of the leader in each category. The second-year captain is tied for eighth in power-play points (8) and tied for 11th in points. In 16 ECAC East contests, he has 13 goals and 18 points. Among all Division II/III players, Geary is tied for ninth in goals.
Côté dished out four assists last week, including on the overtime winner against Castleton State. After assisting a go-ahead power-play marker, he assisted the overtime winner with 39 seconds left. Côté also handed out helpers on a pair of tying power-play goals against Skidmore. His career-high 15 assists tie him for fourth in the NE-10, and Côté is also tied for fourth in power-play points (9). He stands tied for eighth in total points.
Pieprzak recorded five points, with the biggest being scoring the overtime winner against Castleton State. Pieprzak also netted a go-ahead power-play goal in the second period. Versus Skidmore, Pieprzak lent assists to a pair of tying power-play goals after assisting a power-play marker at Franklin Pierce University on Tuesday. Pieprzak is tied for fourth in the NE-10 in power-play points (9). He is also tied for sixth with a career-high 10 goals and tied for eighth with a career-best 20 points. Pieprzak's 10 assists are also a career high.
With their home schedule complete, the Purple Knights hit the road for a season-ending two-game set this weekend. Saint Michael's, which is 8-15 overall and 5-11 in the ECAC East, heads to the nationally-ranked University of Massachusetts at Boston on Friday at 7 p.m. The Beacons are 12th in this week's U.S. College Hockey Online (USCHO) national poll and were ninth in last week's D3hockey.com national rankings.
