Purple Knights fall in one-goal affair at Skidmore

SARATOGA SPRINGS, N.Y. - The Saint Michael's College men's ice hockey team suffered a 1-0 loss to Skidmore College in Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) East play on Saturday at the Saratoga Springs Ice Rink. With the defeat, the Purple Knights fall to 2-7 overall and 1-6 in the league, while the Thoroughbreds improve to 5-3-2 and 4-3-1.

Sophomore Dave Donzanti (West Chester, Pa./Northfield Mount Hermon) stopped 20 shots in his second career start for Saint Michael's.

Senior Zack Menard (Burlington, Mass./New Hampshire Monarchs) tallied the game-winning goal for Skidmore, while sophomore Spencer Sodokoff (Greenwich, Conn./Fairfield Prep) made 19 saves to record the shutout.

Menard buried the contest's only goal with 34 seconds remaining in the opening period on assists from junior Vlad Gavrik (Kharkiv, Ukraine/Hebron Academy) and first-year Jack Even (Wethersfield, Conn./Avon Old Farms). The Purple Knights fired eight shots in the second period and had a pair of power play chances in the frame, but couldn't solve Sodokoff and the Thoroughbred defense.

Saint Michael's returns to action next Saturday, when it travels to face Stonehill College in a Northeast-10 Conference game at 4:10 p.m.
