Six men's ice hockey players earn ECAC East All-Academic honors
COLCHESTER, Vt. - Six members of the Saint Michael's College men's ice hockey program were named to the Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) East All-Academic team on Friday, including four who have now earned multiple honors. This marked the fourth straight season that at least four Purple Knights received the academic recognition. The Saint Michael's qualifiers were among 81 members of the 10-team league to be lauded.
Senior Brady Earle (Columbia, Md./The Gunnery) and juniors Justin Castagna (Los Alamitos, Calif./Los Angeles Kings), Mike Dizgun (Kirkland, Quebec/OCN Blizzard) and Dan Evarts (Hinesburg, Vt./Green Mountain Glades) were each lauded for the second time. Junior Petr Soustal (Unicov, Czech Republic/Gymnazium Unicov) and sophomore Sam Torney (Shelburne, Vt./Bridgewater Bandits) both drew laurels for the first time.
To be eligible for the award, members of ECAC East ice hockey programs need to meet the following criteria: hold a minimum 3.0 cumulative grade-point average; have completed at least one academic year at their institution; and appear in at least 50 percent of their team's games, or log 33 percent of their team's goaltending minutes.
