BOSTON, Mass. - The Saint Michael's College men's ice hockey team (3-11-3, 2-8-3 ECAC East) allowed four power play goals and a shorthanded score in a 7-2 loss at the University of Massachusetts Boston on Saturday.

Sophomore Brady Earle (Columbia, Md./The Gunnery School) scored both goals for the Purple Knights in the loss. Classmate Reave MacKinnon (Winnipeg, Maintoba/Winnipeg Saints) assisted on both goals, while junior Matt Rigtrup (Upper Montclair, N.J./Pickering Panthers) added one assist. Freshman Mike Dizgun (Kirkland, Quebec/OCN Blizzard) recorded 39 saves, including 21 in the second period.

For UMass Boston (9-8-1, 5-7-1 ECAC East), Michael Crowder scored twice, while Vinnie Jacona tallied three assists. Kris Kranzky, Matt Atsoff, and Anthony Fitti each netted a goal and an assist, while Kevin Bendel turned aside 23 shots.

Saint Michael's opened the scoring 10:54 into the contest, but the Beacons netted a power-play goal later in the frame to even the score at 1-all through one period. UMass Boston took the lead for good with three unanswered goals in the second period - two on the power play, and one shorthanded - and led 4-1 after 40 minutes. After Kranzky's goal 36 seconds into the third period gave UMass Boston a 5-1 advantage, Earle's second goal of the game with 7:26 to go cut the deficit to 5-2. The hosts, however, sealed the convincing win with two more goals in the final 3:14 of play.

Saint Michael's returns to action on Tuesday with a 7:30 p.m. contest at Northeast-10 Conference rival Southern New Hampshire University.
