COLCHESTER, Vt. - Saint Michael's College men's basketball seniors Derek Cheatom (Buffalo, N.Y./The Park School of Buffalo) and Levi Holmes III (East Brunswick, N.J./Rutgers Prep) were both chosen for the Northeast-10 Conference Weekly Honor Roll for the week ending Sunday, Feb. 10. Cheatom claimed his seventh accolade of the winter, while Holmes earned his fifth.
Cheatom averaged 26.0 points on 55.9 percent shooting with 4.5 rebounds, 3.0 assists and 2.0 steals while going 6-for-12 from three-point range and 8-of-8 on free throws in a 1-1 week. He had a career-high 35 points, six rebounds, three assists, three steals and a block during an 82-72 win over Southern New Hampshire University on Wednesday, shooting 12-of-19 overall, 6-for-9 from three and 5-for-5 at the charity stripe. In an 87-74 loss at Franklin Pierce University on Saturday, Cheatom netted 17 points on 7-of-15 shooting with three rebounds, three assists and a steal.
Behind three 30-point games, Cheatom averages career highs in not only scoring (16.9) but rebounding (5.4), assists (2.2), steals (1.4) and blocks (1.0) while shooting personal bests from three-point range (37.4%) and on free throws (81.8%). He has accounted for 11 of his 20 season blocks in the last nine games, and 20 of his 30 season steals in the past 11. Cheatom is fifth in the NE10 in steals, tied for fifth in blocks, 10th in scoring, 11th in free throw shooting and 14th in made free throws per game (3.0). He is tied for 17th in program history in career three-pointers (123) and has 885 points in 87 contests.
Holmes averaged 22.5 points, 3.5 rebounds, 3.5 assists and 2.0 steals during a 1-1 week, shooting 47.8 percent overall, 4-for-8 from three-point range and 19-of-21 on free throws. Against Southern New Hampshire, he scored 15 points with three rebounds, six assists and two steals before totaling 30 points, four rebounds, two steals, an assist and a block at Franklin Pierce. Holmes shot 3-for-5 on threes and 13-for-14 on free throws against the Ravens.
Holmes, who has four 30-point games, averages 20.1 points thanks to shooting 42.3 percent from three-point range and 91.5 percent on free throws. He adds a career-high 4.4 rebounds. Holmes is sixth in the nation in free throw shooting, placing first in the NCAA East Region in the category. He stands fifth in the NE10 in made free throws per game (4.5), and sixth in scoring and made three-pointers per game (2.7). Holmes is tied for third in program history in threes (259) while sitting eighth in scoring (1,681).
The Purple Knights, now 6-15 overall and 3-13 in the NE10, visit Stonehill College on Tuesday at 7:30 p.m.
