COLCHESTER, Vt. - Saint Michael's College men's basketball senior Matt Bonds (Accokeek, Md./North Point) earned a spot on the Northeast-10 Conference Weekly Honor Roll for the week ending on Sunday, Feb. 12, claiming a league accolade for the 10th time this winter.
Bonds averaged 17.5 points on 48.3 percent shooting with 11.5 rebounds, 3.5 offensive rebounds, 3.0 assists, 2.5 steals and 1.5 blocks in two games last week. During an 86-74 loss at Franklin Pierce University on Wednesday, he notched 14 points, 10 rebounds, five offensive rebounds, four steals, two assists and a block. In a 95-86 setback at regionally-ranked Saint Anselm College on Saturday, Bonds recorded 21 points, 13 rebounds, four assists, two blocks and a steal. The Hawks were 10th in last week's D2SIDA East Region Media Poll.
Bonds leads the NE10 in rebounding (12.5), offensive rebounding (4.7), double-doubles (17) and field goals made per game (8.5) while placing third in scoring (22.0) and free throws (5.0), fourth in steals (1.7), seventh in shooting (56.2), ninth in minutes (35.1), 15th in blocks (0.8) and 23rd in assists (2.6). During NE10 play alone, Bonds (22.9) trails the league's leading scorer by 0.2 points. Among all Division II players, Bonds is second in double-doubles, third in offensive rebounding, fourth in rebounding and 22nd in scoring. He is second in the East Region in overall rebounding, offensive rebounding and double-doubles, and fifth in scoring.
After notching six 20-point performances over 81 contests in his first three seasons, Bonds has gone for 20 points 18 times in 23 outings as a senior. While collecting 17 double-doubles, Bonds has narrowly fallen shy of five more by notching nine rebounds in four separate contests and missing another by a single basket.
During the week, Bonds pushed his career rebound figure to 1,067, which is good for fifth in NE10 history. Bonds is not only third in program history in rebounds but also 13th in scoring (1,466) and free throws (320) while tying for 13th in field goals (572) and taking 25th in blocks (41). Since offensive rebound totals became available in 1992-93, Bonds has the highest figure among Saint Michael's players (394) while tallying 44 double-doubles. He leads all active Division II players in career rebounds and double-doubles - standing second across the NCAA's three divisions in boards - while placing fourth in rebounding average (10.2) despite averaging 21.6 minutes as an underclassman and not becoming a regular in the starting five until last season.
