Holton lands on NE-10 Weekly Honor Roll for fifth time, earns sixth accolade

COLCHESTER, Vt. - Saint Michael's College men's basketball sophomore Mike Holton Jr. (Portland, Ore./The Winchendon School) earned a Northeast-10 Conference Weekly Honor Roll accolade for the fifth time this season, drawing the nod for the week ending on Sunday, Feb. 12. Holton leads the 16-team league in scoring and received his sixth NE-10 award of the winter, having also once been named player of the week.

Holton averaged 17.5 points on 48.1 percent shooting while helping Saint Michael's go 2-0 last week, knocking off Bentley University and Stonehill College, which both entered the week tied for fourth in the conference. In a 66-64 win on Wednesday over the visiting Falcons, Holton netted 24 points to go along with four rebounds. He finished with an 8-of-15 shooting performance from the floor and a 7-for-10 showing on free throws. During another 66-64 victory, this time at Stonehill on Saturday, Holton hit the winning hoop with fewer than two seconds remaining. He finished with 11 points.

Holton leads the NE-10 in scoring (18.0) and free throws (115), is fourth in free throw shooting (85.2) and stands ninth in field goals (127). He also paces the team in free throw shooting, field goals and three-pointers (44), and is second in assists (61). Through 51 career games, Holton has 855 points, scoring in double figures 46 times.

The Purple Knights, who have won two straight following a six-game losing skid, are 9-14 overall and 8-11 in the NE-10. With three games remaining, Saint Michael's is tied for 11th in a league that accepts the top 10 into its postseason tournament. The Purple and Gold caps its road slate tomorrow at Merrimack College at 7:30 p.m.
