GARDEN CITY, N.Y. - The Saint Michael's College men's basketball team (8-11, 4-11 Northeast-10 Conference) lost its third straight game on Saturday afternoon, 68-48, at league-newcomer Adelphi University.
Sophomore Tom Ward (Brighton, England/Saint Francis (N.Y.)) scored eight points in just six minutes off the bench to lead the Purple Knights. Freshman Travis Warech (Pine Brook, N.J./Montville) also scored eight points as Saint Michael's shot just 29 percent from the field (12-of-41), was outrebounded 38-28, and committed 23 turnovers.
For Adelphi (15-7, 8-7 NE-10), Richard Byrd led four Panthers in double figures with 15 points. Adelphi shot 48 percent from the field, including 65 percent (17-of-26) in the first half, as the hosts doubled up Saint Michael's in the first half, 42-21.
Saint Michael's returns to action on Wednesday with a 7:30 p.m. game at the University of Massachusetts Lowell.
