BURLINGTON, Vt. - The Saint Michael's College men's basketball team could not get its offense going in a 73-44 loss at crosstown-rival University of Vermont in exhibition action on Saturday afternoon at Patrick Gymnasium.
Senior Marqus Blakely led a balanced UVM attack with 14 points and nine rebounds, while Evan Fjeld chipped in with nine points and seven boards. The NCAA Division I Catamounts forced 24 Saint Michael's turnovers, and held the Purple Knights to just 21 percent shooting (13-of-63).
Sophomore Tyler Schilling (Excelsior, Minn./Minnetonka) led the Purple Knights with 14 points and nine rebounds in the loss. Freshman Travis Warech (Pine Brook, N.J./Montville) added 11 points and eight rebounds, but shot just 4-of-19 from the field.
Saint Michael's stayed with the taller Catamounts on the boards, as UVM held a slim 50-49 edge in rebounding. The Purple Knights also held UVM to just 41 percent shooting from the field (29-of-70).
Saint Michael's plays its final exhibition game on Sunday, as Saint Michael's visits Boston College for a 2 p.m. game.
