COLCHESTER, Vt. - The Saint Michael's College men's basketball team is well-represented among the first set of NCAA Division II national statistics, released on Tuesday, with seniors Brian Monahan (Kinderhook, N.Y./Christian Brothers Academy) and James Sorrentine (Pawtucket, R.I./Saint Raphael Academy) leading the way.

Monahan, the Northeast-10 Conference leader in scoring and rebounding, is fourth in the country in scoring at 24.2 points per game (figures do not include the Purple Knights' game on Monday). Monahan is also 11th in the nation in rebounding at 10.2 boards per contest, and 40th in Division II in field goal percentage at 61.4 percent.

Sorrentine, meanwhile, is sixth in the nation in 3-point field goals per game with 4.1, a total that also is tops in the NE-10. Sorrentine, who is just eight 3-pointer shy of tying the program record of 301 set by Todd Roberts '01, is 78th in the nation in scoring with 18.3 ppg.

As a team, Saint Michael's is 11th out of 258 ranked schools in 3-pointers per game with 9.4. The squad is also 23rd out of 262 ranked schools in free throw percentage at 74.4 percent, and 27th out of 258 ranked schools in assist-turnover ratio at 1.22/1.

Both the Saint Michael's men's and women's basketball teams close out the 2007 calendar year on Wednesday, as the Purple Knights visit league-rival College of Saint Rose (women at 5:30 p.m., men at 7:30 p.m.).
