Winona State's first regular season loss in nearly two years has moved Bentley into the top spot and several others up in the first regular season NABC/Division II coaches poll for the 2007-08 season.
The Falcons, whose 4-0 start to the season includes a 25-point win over defending national champion Barton, are ranked atop Division II for the first time since the Feb. 8, 2005 poll. Bentley will host American International Wednesday in its first game as the No. 1-ranked team in the country, then heads to the road Saturday for a game against an Assumption team that received votes this week.
Grand Valley State, off to a 6-0 start including three wins in the Disney East Classic, is ranked second followed by Northwest Missouri State, Findlay, Augusta State and South Dakota. The top six teams have a combined record of 26-0 through Sunday's action.
Winona State dropped to No. 7 this week, the first time the Warriors have been ranked below No. 1 since the end of the 2005-06 season. A trio of teams vaulted into the next four spots, as Rollins moved from No. 17 to eighth, Cal State-San Bernardino, the Disney West champion, entered the poll at No. 9 and Emporia State jumped from No. 23 to tenth. Drury, the No. 22 team in the pre-season, comes in at No. 11 this week followed by Virginia Union, who will open its season this weekend against Bowie State.
