COLCHESTER, Vt.- Capping off an illustrious career, leading the Northeast-10 Conference in scoring (20.1 per game) and rebounding (9.7 per game) as a senior for the Saint Michael's College men's basketball team, senior forward Brian Monahan (Kinderhook, N.Y./Christian Brothers Acad.), received one of 64 invitations to the Collegiate Basketball Invitational in Wadsworth, Ohio from April 24-26.  Monahan, who intends to travel to Ohio, will play in the all-star game on Saturday, April 26 at 8 p.m., live on ESPNU.

"It's a great honor to be recognized, and feels as though my hard work has paid off in a sense," Monahan said of the opportunity to play in front of professional scouts from the NBA, NBDL and other professional leagues in the United States and overseas.

Monahan, who ended his career as the 13th-leading scorer in Saint Michael's program history with 1,451 and sixth-leading rebounder (869), will have the chance to exhibit his skills on a national scene among some of the nation's best.  A 6-6, forward with excellent range, Monahan will be working hard this spring to prepare for the Invitational.  Shooting nearly 40-percent from three-point range, he sees an opportunity to stand out among forwards and centers in attendance.  "It will certainly be a challenge, but to stand out I'll have to show my versatility by knocking down some outside shots and show my strength in rebounding."

The pool of colleges and universities from which players are selected to the Invitational range approximately 1,000 Division II, III and NAIA institutions nationwide.  "To do well in front of scouts and coaches on a national scene would be a great step towards playing at the next level." Monahan noted of the highly-selective event held 45 miles south of Cleveland in Wadsworth, Ohio.

As part of the festivities, players will also partake in a coach's clinic (April 26, 1-6 p.m.), NABC Tip-Off Banquet and other social activities.  All-Star Game tickets can be purchased in advance or at the door.
