Johnson Ties for Ninth Overall, Purple Knights Claim Fifth During Second Round at Post

WATERTOWN, Conn. - The Saint Michael's College men's golf team had the fifth-best round among 11 schools on Tuesday as the two-day Post University Eagles Invitational came to an end at Watertown Golf Club. The Purple Knights' 297 strokes bested two 2018 NCAA Championship qualifiers' scores, while junior Matt Johnson (Sudbury, Mass./Lincoln-Sudbury Regional) tied for ninth place overall.

TEAM RESULTS

  • Saint Michael's shot a 297 on Tuesday, trailing only Le Moyne College (283), Assumption College (295), Saint Thomas Aquinas (N.Y.) College (295) and Southern New Hampshire University (296). All but Assumption qualified for last spring's NCAA Championship.
  • The Purple Knights bested 2018 NCAA qualifiers Post University (298) and Roberts Wesleyan (N.Y.) College (299).
  • The 297 strokes were good for the fourth-lowest figure in program history.
  • Four Purple and Gold competitors broke 80 in the same round for the third time this year.
  • For the tournament, Saint Michael's tied for ninth at 331-297-628, as its 34-stroke improvement between rounds was the best among the 11 schools. The Purple Knights matched Felician (N.J.) University for ninth.
  • Le Moyne won with 582 shots.
