KEENE, N.H. - The Saint Michael's College men's golf team opened its 2017-18 season with day one of the two-day Franklin Pierce University Fall Invitational on Sunday at Keene Country Club. The Purple Knights stand 10th among 10 squads after firing 342 strokes during the initial day of competition. Monday's action begins at 12 p.m.
Sophomore Matt Johnson (Sudbury, Mass./Lincoln-Sudbury Regional) was the team's leader by carding a seven-over 79, tying for 23rd after day one, leaving him one shot short of the top 15. Johnson has now broken 80 shots 10 times in 15 career rounds. First-year Connor Morse (Westford, Mass./Kimball Union Academy) debuted with an 83 to tie for 42nd, while juniors Tucker Buteau (Gorham, Maine/Tilton School) and Colin Gaunt (Queensbury, N.Y./Queensbury) fired matching 90s.
