Field Hockey Falls To Franklin Pierce, 2-1, In Final Game Of Season


COLCHESTER, Vt. - Saturday on Duffy Field, the Purple Knights (4-14, 2-8 NE-10) fell to Franklin Pierce University (9-9, 5-5 NE-10), 2-1, in their last contest of the season.


Senior Kemi Brewster (St. Michael, Barbados/Combermere) put the Purple Knights on the board just six minutes into the first half, notching her second goal of the season. Saint Michael's held the lead until early in the second half when Ravens' sophomore Danielle Dolan (West Brookfield, Mass./Quaboag Regional) scored on an assist by sophomore Kimberly Jaksina (Townsend, Mass./North Middlesex) to tie the game. The Ravens followed up with the winning goal with less than 10 minutes remaining in the game. Sophomore Tia Levins (Manchester, Maine/Maranacook) scored her fifth goal of the season, assisted by senior Ashley Abernethy (Bellingham, Mass./Bellingham).

Ravens' sophomore Brittany Nyzio (Attleboro, Mass./La Salle University) stopped four shots in goal, while Purple Knights' sophomore Jackie Stacey (West Windsor, Vt./Woodstock Union/Endicott) recorded five saves in the contest.

Saint Michael's celebrated "Senior Day" for their last contest of the season, recognizing seven seniors prior to the game who would be participating in the final field hockey contest of their careers as Purple Knights. Those seven seniors, all starters, were as follows: captains Kaitlin Koffink (Goffstown, N.H./Goffstown Area) and Kate Higgins (Mansfield, Mass./Mansfield), Desiree Biron (Bow, N.H./The Gunnery School/University of Vermont), Molly DiMasi (Burlington, Vt./Burlington), Laura Heil (Hudson Falls, N.Y./Hudson Falls), Brewster, and Lynsey Nally (West Newbury, Mass./Pentucket Regional).
