Field Hockey Earns National Academic Team Award; Eight Players Honored
COLCHESTER, Vt. - The Saint Michael's College field hockey team was named to the 2009 Gladiator by SGI/National Field Hockey Coaches Association (NFHCA) Collegiate National Academic Team, it was announced on Tuesday.
In addition, eight Purple Knights earned recognition on the NFHCA Division II National Academic Squad. They are: seniors Kemi Brewster (St. Michael, Barbados/Combermere), Kate Higgins (Mansfield, Mass./Mansfield), Laura Heil (Hudson Falls, N.Y./Hudson Falls), and Lynsey Nally (West Newbury, Mass./Pentucket Regional); junior Natalie Elvidge (Newton, N.J./Newton); sophomores Megan Hill (Guilford, Conn./Guilford) and Katie Stickney (Fair Haven, Vt./Fair Haven Union (SUNY Albany)); and freshman Laken Ferreira (Holliston, Mass./Holliston).
The National Academic Squad recognizes those student-athletes who have achieved a cumulative GPA of 3.30 or higher through the first semester of the 2009-10 academic year. The National Academic Team Award recognizes those institutions that achieve a minimum GPA of 3.0 during the first semester of the 2009-10 academic year.
For Heil and Higgins, this marks the fourth straight year that have been named to the National Academic Squad, while Brewster and Nally are three-year recipients.
