COLCHESTER, Vt. - The Saint Michael's College baseball team, led by second-year head coach Paul Morgan, will be offering a two-day youth clinic on Saturday, November 28, and Sunday, November 29, from 12:30-2:30 p.m. inside the College's Tarrant Recreation Center.
Also, Morgan has announced the Purple Knights' captains for the 2010 spring season: seniors Matt Beaulieu (Littleton, Mass./Lawrence Academy), Tim Pilczak (Cohasset, Mass./Kents Hill School), and Kevin Wickles (Hatfield, Mass./Suffield Academy).
Beaulieu had one of the finest seasons in program history as a junior last spring. The outfielder/pitcher was named to the Daktronics Division II All-East Region Second Team after setting a single-season program record with 56 base hits. He finished the season with a .448 batting average, and led the Purple Knights with 34 runs scored, eight doubles, five triples, two home runs, 27 runs batted in, 80 total bases, and eight stolen bases. He also pitched in six games in relief, recording two saves and striking out eight batters in 5.1 innings pitched, while compiling a 3.38 earned run average.
Pilczak, a captain as a junior as well, joined Beaulieu as the only Purple Knights last year to start all 34 contests. The infielder tied Beaulieu for the team lead with eight doubles, and enters his senior season tied for the program record with 25 career doubles. Pilczak also led the team last spring with nine hit by pitches, and was second with 17 walks. He needs just three more base hits to reach 100 for his career, and 35 hits to tie the program record of 132 held by Sean Finnell '94.
Wickles has been one of the squad's most consistent starting pitchers the last two seasons. The righthander pitched 28.1 innings last spring, earning two wins in nine appearances (five starts). He finished third on the squad with 27 strikeouts, leading the starting rotation by fanning nearly a batter per inning. As a sophomore in 2008, Wickles led the Purple Knights with three wins and 29 strikeouts, pitching 34.2 over the course of seven appearances (six starts).
Saint Michael's opens its 2010 season in March in Florida.
