COLCHESTER, Vt. - The Saint Michael's College baseball team (14-18) defeated The College of Saint Joseph (Vt.) (0-20, 0-14 Sunrise), 15-0, Tuesday afternoon on Doc Jacobs Field.
Saint Michael's scored five runs in the first inning and seven in the sixth inning to run away with the 15-0 victory. The Purple Knights' five-run first inning was highlighted by junior Tim Pilczak's (Cohasset, Mass./Kents Hill School) two-run single. In the seven-run sixth inning, sophomore Ben Yodzio (Hingham, Mass./Hingham) hit a three-run home run for his first of the season.
Sophomore Pete Estes (Bennington, Vt./Mount Anthony Union) went 2-for-3 with two RBI and two runs scored, while junior Anthony Bonvechio (Newport, Vt./Southern New Hampshire University) went 2-for-3 with an RBI and run scored. Junior Matt Beaulieu (Littleton, Mass./Lawrence Academy) would hit his second home run of the year, and freshman Chad Estey (Hew Haven, Vt./Mount Abraham Union) would collect two hits on the day. Yodzio would finish 2-for-4 with three runs scored and three driven in. Freshman Jesse Sullivan (Saugus, Mass./Pingree School) would earn the win, giving up two hits and striking out six in five innings of work.
For the Saints, junior Moises Santana (Washington Heights, N.Y.) went 2-for-3, while junior Eric M. Johnson (Charlestown, N.H.) would finish 1-for-3. Sophomore Brandon Fox (Hiram, Maine) took the loss, giving up eight runs (six earned) on nine hits and striking out three in four innings.
Saint Michael's returns to action on Wednesday, as the Purple Knights take on Plattsburgh State University in a Senior Day doubleheader starting at 3 p.m. on Doc Jacobs Field.
