COLCHESTER, Vt. - The Saint Michael's College baseball team (13-18) picked up a shutout victory over Southern Vermont College (11-24, 7-3 NECC), 10-0, Sunday afternoon on Doc Jacobs Field.
The Purple Knights used a six-run sixth inning to extend their lead to 8-0 en route to the 10-0 shutout victory. The inning was highlighted with a bases-clearing double from sophomore Ben Yodzio (Hingham, Mass./Hingham). Southern Vermont committed three errors on the afternoon while collecting four hits.
For Saint Michael's, junior Mike Robert (Wellesley, Mass./Babson) pitched a complete game shutout, giving up four hits while striking out three and walking one. Freshman Chad Estey (New Haven, Vt./Mount Abraham Union) went 2-for-4 with two RBI, classmate Mike Cracchiola (Oyster Bay, N.Y./Kellenberg Memorial) finished 2-for-5 with a run scored, and Yodzio went 2-for-4 with two runs scored and three driven in.
For Southern Vermont, sophomore Adam Northup (Richmond, R.I.) went 1-for-3, while freshman Rob Murawski (Franklin Square, N.Y.) went 1-for-2. Junior Brett Pawlak (Shelton, Conn.) and freshman Eric Wells (Athens, Pa.) each finished with a hit. On the mound, Wells gave up six earned runs on six hits and struck out three in five innings of work for the loss.
Saint Michael's returns to action on Tuesday, as the Purple Knights take on The College of Saint Joseph (Vt.) in a doubleheader starting at 3 p.m. on Doc Jacobs Field.
