CASTLETON, Vt. - The Saint Michael's College baseball team (12-18) split a pair of close games at Castleton State College on Saturday, winning game one, 7-5, and falling in the nightcap, 12-11.

Freshman Austin Ziskie (Chevy Chase, Md./Bethesda Chevy Chase) earned the complete game win in the opener, allowing just four earned runs while striking out seven. Junior Matt Beaulieu (Littleton, Mass./Lawrence) led the Purple Knights at the plate, going 3-for-4 with three singles, two runs scored and two RBIs. In the process, he set the program's single-season record for base hits, breaking the old record of 47 held by Kevin Harutunian '06 in 2004.

Freshman Chad Estey (New Haven, Vt./Mount Abraham Union) belted a home run and doubled in the win, scoring twice and driving in a pair. Junior Tim Pilczak (Cohasset, Mass./Kents Hill School) recorded his 25th career double in the victory, tying the program's career mark. Saint Michael's used a four-run fourth inning to take a 6-0 lead, and held off the Spartans in snapping a six-game losing skid.

In game two, a rally in the top of the seventh inning fell just short as Saint Michael's was edged by Castleton. Despite the loss, Beaulieu had another big game at the plate, as he doubled twice and drove in five runs. Freshman Patrick Lawler (Franklin, Mass./Franklin) added three singles, four RBIs and two runs, while freshman Mike Cracchiola (Oyster Bay, N.Y./Kellenburg Memorial) went a career-best 4-for-4 with a double, runs scored and RBI. Senior Colin Dudunake (Florence, Mass./Suffield Academy) suffered the loss in relief, as the Purple Knights allowed seven runs in the bottom of the fourth inning to see a 9-3 lead disappear.

Saint Michael's returns to action on Sunday, as the Purple Knights host Southern Vermont College in a 12 p.m. doubleheader.
