MIDDLEBURY, Vt. - The Saint Michael's College baseball team (11-16) dropped its fifth straight game on Tuesday, falling at Middlebury College, 9-4. Middlebury (10-14) took the lead for good in a four-run fifth inning, erasing a 3-2 deficit.
For the Purple Knights, senior Ryan Reather (Riverton, Utah/Juan Diego Catholic) had a two-run double in the fourth inning, giving the visitors a 3-2 lead. Junior Matt Beaulieu (Littleton, Mass./Lawrence Academy) raised his batting average to .459 with a 3-for-4 showing, scoring a run and driving in a run. Freshman Chad Estey (New Haven, Vt./Mount Abraham Union) added two singles and a run scored.
Junior Mike Robert (Wellesley, Mass./Babson University) suffered the loss for the Purple Knights, as he allowed eight runs (six earned) and 11 hits in 6.2 innings pitched.
Saint Michael's is scheduled to return to action on Wednesday, as the Purple Knights host the College of Saint Rose in a 3:30 p.m. contest on Doc Jacobs Field.
