Baseball Rallies From Six-Run Deficit To Edge Southern New Hampshire, 12-11


COLCHESTER, Vt. - The Saint Michael's College baseball team (6-14) won in dramatic fashion on Wednesday, rallying past Southern New Hampshire University, 12-11, at Doc Jacobs Field. The Purple Knights scored six runs in the bottom of the eighth inning to tie the score at 11-all, and earned the win - their fourth in the last five contests - in the ninth inning on a bases loaded walk.

For the Purple Knights, freshman Ben Yodzio (Hingham, Mass./Hingham) tied the score in the eighth inning with a two-run single. Senior Ed Fennessey (Wilton, Conn./Wilton) tripled and singled, scoring two runs, while Classmate Greg McLaughlin (Rutland, Vt./Rutland) doubled, singled, and drive in two runs. Junior Ryan Reather (Riverton, Utah/Juan Diego Catholic) singled twice and scored four runs, while sophomore Matt Beaulieu (Littleton, Mass./Lawrence Academy) singled twice and drew the bases loaded walk that clinched the win. Freshman Pete Estes (Bennington, Vt./Mount Anthony Union), the fourth pitcher for Saint Michael's, earned the win with 1.1 innings of scoreless relief.

For Southern New Hampshire (6-23), senior Bill Murray (Canton, Mass.) singled four times and scored four runs. Junior Skyler Byrd (Milford, N.H.) doubled twice, scored twice and drove in a pair, while sophomore Chris O'Neil (Chelmsford, Mass.) doubled, singled and drive in three runs. Junior Brett Joy (Milford, N.H.) had two singled, two RBIs and two stolen bases for the Penmen.

Saint Michael's returns to action on Friday with a 3:30 p.m. doubleheader at the College of Saint Rose.
