Baseball Explodes For 19-5 Victory Versus Vermont Tech


COLCHESTER, Vt. - The Saint Michael's College baseball team (4-13) exploded for 16 runs in the fifth inning to erase a 5-3 deficit and defeat Vermont Technical College, 19-5, on Tuesday at Doc Jacobs Field.

For the Purple Knights, freshman Ben Yodzio (Hingham, Mass./Hingham) singled three times and drove in four runs, while sophomore Jeff McLaughlin (Rutland, Vt./Rutland) singled twice and tallied three RBIs. Sophomore Kevin Wickles (Hatfield, Mass./Suffield Academy) earned the victory on the mound, pitching three innings of scoreless relief.

For Vermont Tech, sophomore Jeff Savage (Vermon, Vt.) singled twice and scored a run, while classmate Calvin Russell (Randolph Center, Vt.) and freshman Jordan Hodge (Bradford, Vt.) added RBI singles as the Green Knights took a 5-0 lead in the top of the first inning. Freshman Blake Wright (Windsor, Vt.) suffered the loss on the mound.

Saint Michael's returns to action on Thursday with a 3 p.m. home contest against Middlebury College.
