FORT MYERS, Fla. - The Saint Michael's College baseball team (2-5) lost its fourth straight game on Thursday evening, falling to Illinois College in 11 innings, 10-7, at the Gene Cusic Collegiate Classic.
Despite the loss, senior Evan Grenier (Bridgeport, Conn./Notre Dame Fairfield) went 5-for-6 at the plate with a three-run home run, a double, three singles and two runs scored. His sixth-inning homer tied the game at 5-all, and the Purple Knights scored twice in the bottom of the seventh inning to take a 7-5 lead. Illinois, however, scored single runs in the eighth and ninth innings, and then snapped a 7-all score with three runs in the top of the 11th inning.
Also for Saint Michael's, junior Jake Chadwick (Hampton, N.H./Winnacunnet) had a two-run triple and two singles, while sophomore Tim Pilczak (Cohasset, Mass./Kents Hill School) singled and doubled.
Saint Michael's returns to action on Friday with a 10 a.m. doubleheader versus Saint lawrence University.
