Baseball Drops Doubleheader To Nebraska-Omaha


FORT MYERS, Fla. - The Saint Michael's College baseball team (2-4) lost a pair of contests at the Gene Cusic Collegiate Classic on Tuesday, falling to the University of Nebraska-Omaha in game one, 15-4, and game two, 12-4.

In the opener, the Mavericks scored 13 runs in the first four innings to seize control. Saint Michael's tallied three runs in the third inning, with a two-run single by senior Greg McLaughlin (Rutland, Vt./Rutland) the big hit. The Purple Knights added a run in the fourth inning, as senior Matt O'Brien (Beverly, Mass./St. John's Prep) singled and scored. Junior Colin Dudunake (Florence, Mass./Suffield Academy) took the loss on the mound.

In game two, Nebraska-Omaha slowly pulled away to complete the sweep. The Purple Knights scored all four of its runs in the seventh and final inning, with three coming on freshman Ben Yodzio's (Hingham, Mass./Hingham) bases-clearing pinch-hit double. Junior Jake Chadwick (Hampton, N.H./Winnacunnet) added an RBI single, while sophomore Matt Beaulieu (Littleton, Mass./Lawrence Academy) threw a complete game, fanning six batters.

The Purple Knights return to action on Thursday with a 5 p.m. contest versus Illinois College.
