Baseball Bests Saint Lawrence, Falls To Felician

FORT MYERS, Fla. - The Saint Michael's College baseball team (2-2) split two more contests at the Gene Cusic Collegiate Classic on Monday. In Monday's first game, the Purple Knights hung on for an 18-16 victory versus Saint Lawrence University, and in the afternoon, Saint Michael's fell to Felician College, 15-0.

In the opener, Saint Michael's scored eight runs in the fourth inning, but nearly squandered a 17-6 lead. Sophomore Kevin Wickles (Hatfield, Mass./Suffield Academy) earned the win in his collegiate pitching debut, throwing the first five innings. Freshman Pete Estes (Bennington, Vt./Mount Anthony Union) retired all four batters he faced to earn the save, also in his first college pitching performance. At the plate, senior Ed Fennessey (Wilton, Conn./Wilton) led the way with three singles, three RBIs and two runs scored.

In game two, Felician scored 11 runs in the top of the first inning and cruised to the win. Freshman Jeff Dukette (Northfield, Vt./Northfield) tallied a pair of singles in the setback.

Saint Michael's returns to action on Monday with a 10 a.m. doubleheader versus the University of Nebraska-Omaha.
