COLCHESTER, Vt. – The Saint Michael’s College men’s and women’s ice hockey teams announced their 2010-11 schedules today, with the two teams scheduled to play a combined 29 home games from late-October until late-February (please see men's schedule and women's schedule).

The Saint Michael’s men, led by fourth-year head coach Chris Davidson, open the 2010-11 season on November 19 with a 7 p.m. contest versus ECAC East rival University of Southern Maine at Cairns Arena in South Burlington. The Purple Knights play eight of their first 11 games at Cairns Arena, including a December 7 date with defending national Champion and in-state rival Norwich University, and 15 of their 25 regular-season contests are at home.

The Saint Michael’s women, led by 11th-year head coach Chris Donovan, begin the season in October for the first time in program history, as the Purple Knights host Buffalo State College on October 30 at 3 p.m. Fourteen of the Purple Knights’ 25 games are at Cairns Arena this season, including the ECAC Women’s Open Tournament to end the season on February 26-27, featuring the College of the Holy Cross, Saint Anselm College and Sacred Heart University.

Both ice hockey programs will also host the sixth annual Saint Michael’s College Holiday Classic, sponsored by the Windjammer Restaurant, on January 1 and 2. A combined eight games will be played on both sheets of ice at Cairns during the combined tournament, an event that the Saint Michael’s women won for the first time last season.

The Saint Michael’s men, coming off of a 7-17-3 season last year, are seeking their third Northeast-10 Conference Championship in the last four seasons this winter. The team will be led by senior captain Alex Higgins (Phoenix, Ariz./Kent School), and a pair of classmates, assistant captains Matt Rigtrup (Upper Montclair, N.J./Pickering Panthers) and Nick Sheehan (Potsdam, N.Y./Cornwall Colts).

The Saint Michael’s women, 3-20-2 last season, will be led by senior captains Kelly Rose Losi (Milton, Mass./Milton) and Emily Paquin (Bowie, Md./Washington Pride), while classmate Margaret Guarente (Wellesley, Mass./Wellesley) is the squad’s assistant captain.
